D4.

D4 is the initiator of GR4SS and is responsible for project management, commercial affairs, and environmental management. D4 was established with the aim of collaboratively developing the energy system of the future in a sustainable, reliable, and affordable manner. D4 accelerates this transition by initiating and developing sustainable energy projects and investing in their advancement.

Addressing key challenges of the energy transition, D4 recognizes the importance of public support for the realization of sustainable energy projects. Consequently, D4 focuses on developing impactful and relevant projects in complex collaborations involving various stakeholders. With a track record of leading and developing diverse projects, D4 is currently involved in the development of bio-LNG installations and verge grass digesters in Leeuwarden and other locations. Additionally, as a co-owner of AQ, D4 facilitates the deployment of batteries at solar fields, wind parks, and high-consumption sites to alleviate stress on the electricity grid.

HoSt

Founded in 1991 through a collaboration between Holec Projects and Stork, two established suppliers of energy systems, HoSt became an independent company in 1999. Since then, HoSt’s activities have been 100% dedicated to the technological development of waste-to-energy systems for processing biomass and waste streams, and the supply of systems for sustainable energy generation from biomass and waste. HoSt has extensive experience in processing various waste streams from the food processing industry and by-products from agriculture.

Having evolved into a global organization with over 200 engineers, a large service team across Europe, multiple offices in both the US and Europe, a vast network of sales representatives and partner distributors, HoSt is involved in bio-energy projects worldwide. In this project, HoSt is responsible for the design of the installation. HoSt will shape the process from grass to gas and lead during the construction of the digestion plant.

FSFE

Fûns Skjinne Fryske Enerzjy (FSFE) was established with the primary goal of contributing to the sustainability ambition of the province of Fryslân. FSFE achieves this by providing financial support to projects in the field of sustainable energy and energy efficiency. These projects must demonstrate a tangible contribution to the energy transition in the province of Fryslân. FSFE provides risk-bearing financing in the form of loans, guarantees, and/or equity capital (in conjunction with private investors), with a maximum of €15 million per project. FSFE does not grant subsidies but exclusively offers market-oriented financing.

FSFE BV is a 100% subsidiary of the Province of Fryslân but operates independently with its own management. Investment decisions are made by the core team following advice from the investment committee. FSFE is a co-owner of Bermgras ECL and holds voting rights in the steering group.

Kekkilä-BVB

Kekkilä-BVB is the European market leader in professional horticulture, providing products and services to professionals, consumers, and gardeners. Operating globally in over 100 countries, Kekkilä-BVB collaborates with its customers towards a better future. It is a part of the Finnish Neova Group.

Kekkilä-BVB takes charge of the process design for sustainable potting soil, ensuring that it meets the standards outlined in various (inter)national certifications and guidelines. Additionally, Kekkilä-BVB assists in refining the sustainable potting soil into a product suitable for horticulture.

Rijkswaterstaat

Rijkswaterstaat is a crucial government agency in the Netherlands responsible for the management and maintenance of waterways, roads, and infrastructure. As part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Rijkswaterstaat plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, accessibility, and sustainability of the country’s transportation systems and water resources. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, Rijkswaterstaat addresses complex challenges in the fields of mobility, water management, and the environment.

In the context of the GR4SS project, Rijkswaterstaat’s involvement adds a significant dimension to their commitment to sustainability. By supplying grass and facilitating the uptake of biomethane, Rijkswaterstaat actively contributes to the circular economy and the production of sustainable energy. This collaboration aligns with their broader mission to stimulate innovation and promote sustainable practices in the realms of transportation, water management, and infrastructure.

Provincie Fryslân

Provincie Fryslân is a regional government entity in the Netherlands responsible for various aspects of regional development, including spatial planning, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. As a partner in the GR4SS project, Provincie Fryslân shares its commitment to promoting sustainable practices and innovative solutions.

Provincie Fryslân’s involvement in GR4SS aligns with their dedication to advancing sustainable energy and the circular economy. By contributing grass and facilitating the uptake of biomethane, the province actively supports the project’s goal of producing biogas and potting soil from organic waste.
